The reference photo for this oil painting was created using AI. After making compositional changes in Photoshop. I layered oil colors onto the substrate over a period of months, hand-painting the artwork.
Painted directly onto an ACM metal panel, it's sealed with Gamvar varnish for preservation. Each metal sheet is made from recycled materials. The panel does not warp, it does not decay, and it can be stored for generations in humid environments.
This original oil painting arrives framed and ready to hang via the pictured wooden frame secured by 30lb wire and d-rings. Additionally, paintings include a Certificate of Authenticity attached to the back. Paintings are professionally packaged and insured during shipment.
After generating thousands of images using Night Cafe, I selected a limited number to paint from based on compositional elements. In this painting, I loved the idea of creating a portrait where parts of the portrait were off. That is, in this painting the eyes are not in the exact right place, the crown is peculiar. I had to add teeth to this portrait. I love the idea that we as humans are imperfect and that this portrait is still perfect with all its flaws. I also love the idea that AI uses our entire existence of photographs and populates our perception of a person.
AI is a new term that many of us artists are scared of. I think incorporating it into my process in this way is something you don't see very often. It was challenging mentally because there are so many ethical considerations. So rather than just copy another artist's work, I set out to create things that were completely new.
Each written prompt entered into an AI image generator can produce an astonishing number of outputs. An AI image generator with two seeds can produce 9.2 x 10^20 different outputs. For perspective, there are an estimated 7.5 x 10^18 grains of sand on Earth.
In this series, I explored AI-generated images and prompts, carefully selecting reference photos based on their potential compositional merit. Afterward, I enhanced them in Photoshop before translating the concepts into oil paintings using traditional mediums such as pencil and oil paint.

When it comes to art certificates, there's a crucial factor to consider. Certificates created using common computers and machines can be easily replicated. Many art listings on platforms like eBay feature certificates from online third-party companies, not from the original artist. This poses a significant risk, as anyone could potentially 'certify' artwork, even if the artist didn't create it in question. Safeguarding the authenticity of certificates is vital in maintaining the integrity of the art market.
A certificate of authenticity should be as irreplaceable as the art itself; this tiny detail can help protect against fraud and guarantee that you are getting an original. It can also ensure that you can more easily able to sell your art later on in life without a hitch.

Chambers has said, "Artificial Intelligence is the most significant innovation to influence oil painting since the invention of the handheld camera in the 1880s."
Born in 1990, Cedric Alessandro Chambers is a Bolivian-American oil painter. He holds a BFA and an MBA from MSU Denver.
