I searched for "custom oil paintings from a photo" on the internet and saw plenty of options out there. When it came to human portraiture, a lot of it wasn't quite right. I don't say that to be mean. I can embarrassingly say that I was also inexperienced at one point in my career. I created some awkward paintings in my early twenties.
You may be wondering why it's so hard to paint a person. The human figure is considered one of the hardest subjects to paint since we as humans can recognize even the tiniest mistake, which is also why it's so hard to find an artist who can paint portraits well.Â
Many artists skip studying from life, and therefore lack the discipline to properly paint a portrait. One has to keep in mind that painting is a pursuit, a life goal, you have to practice day after day to get good at it.
My goal in life is to be one of those very skilled artists. One of my mentors, Felicia Forte, will not look at a commission for less than $8,000. Another personal hero of mine, Daniel Sprick, charges $100,000 a portrait. I hope to be able to charge those rates at some point in my career.Â
When you commission a painting from me, you are getting the experience of someone in the middle of their artistic development, but with plenty of experience.
All my paintings include a signed Certificate of Authenticity. Each certificate of authenticity includes the name of the owner who purchased the artwork. If you are buying this painting as a gift, please provide the name of the gift recipient for the certificate. I can also ship to the address of the recipient of your gift. If the painting is a surprise gift, shipping to a FedEx facility is an excellent option as they'll hold the artwork until you're ready to pick it up.
Your choice of a custom oil painting painted onto Aluminum, Linen, or Canvas.
Aluminum composite material (Dibond) is one of the latest innovations in painting. Originally used in the advertising realm for corporate displays, screenprinting, and corporate signage.
As an artist who paints custom paintings from photographs quite often, I can attest that the benefits of painting custom portraits on aluminum outweigh the benefits of painting on canvas.
Canvas and linen can last quite a long time, as there are paintings in existence that are thousands of years old. Oil is an organic material that has a shelf life. Because of its shelf life, oil over time decays and can rot the substrate it is painted on. Aluminum does not have this issue, since it is not an organic material it can never rot.
1. Oil decays over time.
2. Canvas is often stretched onto wood, which also warps.
Wood has a tendency to warp in just about any humid or nonhumid environment. These inefficiencies can result in cracking, damaging your long-term investment over its life, sometimes in as little as months. I address this problem by stretching custom paintings onto aluminum stretcher bars.
However, Canvas or linen is better suited than Aluminum for huge paintings over 24x36 inches because of weight and other factors. If you'd like a larger than life painting please feel free to contact me. I'm not saying it's not possible to get an aluminum panel bigger than 24x36 inches it's just not practical. In the case of a super large painting, Aluminum stretcher bars are a fantastic addition to any traditional canvas painting, as they have many of the benefits of an aluminum painting but can also scale to huge sizes.

When it comes to art certificates, there's a crucial factor to consider. Certificates created using common computers and machines can be easily replicated. Many art listings on platforms like eBay feature certificates from online third-party companies, not from the original artist. This poses a significant risk, as anyone could potentially 'certify' artwork, even if the artist didn't create it in question. Safeguarding the authenticity of certificates is vital in maintaining the integrity of the art market.
A certificate of authenticity should be as irreplaceable as the art itself; this tiny detail can help protect against fraud and guarantee that you are getting an original. It can also ensure that you can more easily able to sell your art later on in life without a hitch.
Paintings shipped within the U.S. are shipped free of charge.
