I hand-painted this oil painting directly onto a Richeson gessoed panel. Panels were the industry standard of oil painting way back when, they allow the artist to capture details and are excellent surfaces for realistic oil painting. I enjoyed making the textured concrete in his painting. Often I feel challenged by a painting before I even begin, however, to create the details one often just has to put the effort in, there are rarely easier ways to paint this level of detail than to paint it with a tiny brush. This analogy is also true of life.
Q. Where did you get the inspiration for this Origami Horse Painting?
I used to fold origami all the time as a child. I’d make intricate paper animals when I was bored in class. It felt right to make a series of Origami paintings that combined the many avenues of art that I’ve practiced. Origami, photography, and painting. When I painted this series I imagined it would make an excellent addition to a kid's room. I've always felt that the environment that someone grows up in can heavily influence their development. Even later in life, I feel anxiety when a room is too messy. a home should be somewhere where you want to be. I love getting lost in paintings.
Q. How were you pushing your boundaries as an artist?
I learned a lot about painting by painting this series. My previous artwork was a lot looser. The rigid photo-realistic style for this series further developed my skills as an artist. For this oil painting, I had to learn how to fold an Origami Horse. Then there was actively taking the reference photos in the dead of night. This is not necessarily hard to do but 10 years ago the camera technology was not as good as it is today.
Q. How does this oil painting make you feel?
Origami reminds me of my childhood. I’m attempting to create something beautiful while simultaneously trying to convey the feeling of something impermanent or fragile.

When it comes to art certificates, there's a crucial factor to consider. Certificates created using common computers and machines can be easily replicated. Many art listings on platforms like eBay feature certificates from online third-party companies, not from the original artist. This poses a significant risk, as anyone could potentially 'certify' artwork, even if the artist didn't create it in question. Safeguarding the authenticity of certificates is vital in maintaining the integrity of the art market.
A certificate of authenticity should be as irreplaceable as the art itself; this tiny detail can help protect against fraud and guarantee that you are getting an original. It can also ensure that you can more easily able to sell your art later on in life without a hitch.
